The Carolina RailHawks announced the re-signing of midfielder Austin da Luz ahead of the 2015 NASL Season. At the same time, the RailHawks announced the release of Daniel Jackson.
“We are delighted to have Austin back. He has been a leader in this team over the past few years and has the type of experience we are looking for,†said RailHawks Head Coach Colin Clarke. “Austin is a fantastic player and has great ability. He fits into our mold perfectly.â€
Da Luz first signed with the RailHawks in 2012, and has since rejoined the team following a one-year stint with USL Pro side Orlando City SC. While in Orlando, he made a total of 18 USL Pro appearances, scoring five goals and completing one assist in 1,123 minutes. At the conclusion of the 2014 USL season, da Luz returned to the RailHawks. During his three seasons with the RailHawks (2012-2014), da Luz accumulated 2,847 minutes, 6 goals, and 10 assists in over 48 matches.
The Winston-Salem native had a stellar college career playing for the Demon Deacons at Wake Forest University. He appeared in 80 matches scoring 13 goals while also having 39 assists. Da Luz was part of the highly successful team that appeared in four Final Fours including a NCAA National Championship in 2007.
Da Luz would was selected as the 14th overall pick of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by the New York Red Bulls, where he played seven regular season games in 2011, making four starts and notching a goal and an assist. He was then traded to D.C. United, where he participated in 14 matches.
