"I would like to thank Puebla FC for their commitment to come to the Triangle and face the RailHawks after the unusual circumstances related to the volcanic ash eruption," said RailHawks President Curt Johnson. "After working through national team, league and cup competition schedules, we have found a date that is exciting for Puebla FC, the RailHawks, and most importantly the fans. Puebla has recently signed Cuauhtemoc Blanco and are in the process of adding more star players. This game will provide fans a first look at the new Puebla roster less than two weeks prior to the start of their new season.”
Right now, Puebla FC is gearing up for the 2014 Liga MX Apertura. The most recent addition to Puebla FC is one of Mexico’s most popular players of all-time, Cuauhtemoc Blanco. Blanco has been featured for the Mexican national team in three FIFA World Cups (total of 119 appearances overall) and is the all-time leading goal scorer in the FIFA Confederations Cup with nine goals (36 goals in all competitions). Blanco spent most of his playing career with Club America, logging 333 appearances and 135 goals. He won his first club championship with Club America in 2005. In 2007, Blanco moved to the U.S. and joined MLS’ Chicago Fire. In Chicago, he was a finalist for the M.V.P. of the year award twice. Since he left the Fire in 2009, Blanco played with several Ascenso MX Clubs. In 2011 he won the Copa MX, while playing with Dorados de Sinaloa.
Johnson continued, “Puebla is a 2-time Mexican Champion and former CONCACAF Champions League Champion. They have a history of success and are committed to bring their first team players. Fans can expect a highly competitive match at WakeMed Soccer Park on July 6th."
