The Carolina RailHawks and West Ham United FC are banding together to support diversity in the state of North Carolina during the first ever visit of an English Premier League team to the Triangle on Tuesday, July 12.
The RailHawks, together with its two supporters’ groups, Oak City Supporters and Triangle Soccer Fanatics, will host a joint tailgate uniting with West Ham Supporters from all over the world in promoting inclusion and equality regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
Food will be provided, while supplies last, and donations will be accepted at the entrance in support of Equality NC, a local advocacy group dedicated to securing equal rights and justice for LGBTQ North Carolinians. The tailgate will take place at the bottom of Lot C adjacent to the East side of the stadium starting at 6 p.m.
“As an organization, we reject all forms of discrimination,” said RailHawks President and General Manager Curt Johnson. “We feel that bringing our supporters’ groups together with West Ham supporters, will show fans in attendance and around the world that North Carolinians are committed to an inclusive environment on and off the field. This event, paired with the jersey auction later this season, is just one of our ongoing initiatives culminating in our Diversity Night on October 22.”
The RailHawks will auction off 10 autographed West Ham United jerseys later this season, with all proceeds of the auction going to Equality NC. At the conclusion of the auction the RailHawks will present a check to Equality NC on Diversity Night, an event that will take place in conjunction with Fan Appreciation Night to show the organization’s commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion and acceptance.
“Equality NC, the largest Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) advocacy group in North Carolina, is grateful for the support of the Carolina RailHawks and West Ham United FC in this crucial time.” said Matt Hirschy, Equality NC Director of Advancement. “House Bill 2 (HB2) is a deeply discriminatory bill that does not represent North Carolina values. We applaud the Carolina RailHawks and West Ham United FC for standing up against discrimination and championing inclusivity and diversity.”
