Raleigh, NC (December 6, 2016)- North Carolina FC owner Steve Malik stated he will accelerate efforts to finalize a location and begin construction on a new 20,000+ seat stadium within the next year.
Malik also announced an aggressive public campaign to be awarded an MLS franchise within the next 12-18 months as part of the newly named North Carolina FC’s vision of bringing the highest level of soccer to the state.
"MLS requires a minimum of 20,000 seats with amenities in order to maximize revenue, and a new stadium is vital to our plans as it would increase the economic impact in the area and allow us to better showcase the sport," said Malik.
The location and renderings will be unveiled in 2017.
North Carolina FC will play at the world-class WakeMed Soccer Park located in Cary, NC for the 2017 season. The 10,000 seat stadium has been the club’s home since 2007.
