CARY, N.C. (June 23, 2018) – North Carolina FC U-23 maintained its one-point lead in the Premier Development League’s South Atlantic Division with a 3-3 draw against the Myrtle Beach Mutiny Saturday afternoon at Koka Booth Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park.
Not wasting any time to get going, NCFC started quickly and took a 1-0 advantage in the 17th minute thanks to defenseman Walid Yacoubou. Fed a precise cross from forward David Cupperman on a corner kick, Yacoubou volleyed his shot home from less than six yards out.
Just before the halftime whistle North Carolina FC doubled its advantage thanks to creative play from forward Cjay Sparks and a cool finish from midfielder Alex Moztarzadeh. Free on the left flank, Sparks centered the ball for Moztarzadeh, who slotted his effort home from point-blank range.
Midway through the second half, the visitors pulled one back in the 66th minute as Brahan Gamarra poked home a rebound.
However, NCFC was able to respond right away and regained its two-goal lead in the 80th minute when midfielder David Mejia found the back of the net off an assistant from forward Jelani Pieters.
Myrtle Beach pulled within one once again with Joao Delgado’s 83rd-minute strike, and ultimately earned a draw when Nazeem Bartman scored three minutes into stoppage time after he was set up by John Ander Ibarrondo.
Notes:
— NCFC has lost just once its nine latest PDL matches.
— NCFC now has 19 points through 10 matches on the season.
— Myrtle Beach’s Kenneth Perkinson is a product of the NCFC Youth Academy.
