CARY, N.C. (Dec. 11, 2023) — North Carolina FC has signed forward Evan Conway to a two-year contract through the 2025 season, as announced by the club Monday. The signing is pending league and federation approval.
Conway, 26, has four professional seasons under his belt and has double-digit goal contributions in each of his last three campaigns between the two professional levels of the United Soccer League.
Conway spent the last two seasons with San Diego Loyal of the topflight USL Championship, scoring 19 goals and adding three assists across 63 appearances. He played 2,247 minutes in 2023, winning 41.5% of his duels and creating 16 chances.
Prior to San Diego, Conway spent two seasons in USL League One with Union Omaha, where he scored 16 goals in 32 appearances across two seasons. Across 2,415 minutes, Conway created 29 chances and won 210 duels.
“We are thrilled to welcome Evan to the club. We got to face him a few years back in USL League One and it was clear then that he had the ability to make an impact at the Championship level. He’s proven so the past two seasons in San Diego. His skills in the final third, along with his first-hand knowledge of the jump from USL League One to the Championship, will be huge for us heading into 2024,” said NCFC head coach and sporting director John Bradford.
“I’m excited to join NCFC at such an important time in its history. I deeply value the winning culture this team and community has fostered and look forward to contributing to its continued success in 2024. With NCFC’s return to the USL Championship, we have a unique opportunity to make an impact and a statement. I can’t wait to step onto WakeMed for the first time and meet the fans in March! Let’s do this,” Conway said.
A native of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, Conway was a four-year starter for the NCAA Division I Milwaukee Panthers before turning pro, racking up 6,329 minutes, 27 goals and 17 assists across 77 appearances.
He was named First-Team All-Horizon League and Second-Team United Soccer Coaches All-North Region his senior year, Second-Team All-Horizon League as a junior and Horizon League Freshman of the Year in 2016. He also played with Ventura County Fusion of the USL League 2 in 2019.
Conway is the third new signing announced by North Carolina FC ahead of the club’s return to the USL Championship in 2024. The team now has 12 players under contract for the 2024 season.
