CARY, N.C. (May 23, 2018)– North Carolina FC U-23 played to an entertaining 1-1 draw with the Myrtle Beach Mutiny on Wednesday night at WakeMed Soccer Park. NCFC moves to 0W-2D-1L (2 points) on the season.
The wide-open match featured plenty of chances for both sides, but an impressive goalkeeping display from NCFC Youth Academy products, George Marks for NCFC U-23 and Kenneth Perkinson for Myrtle Beach, kept the match level.
NCFC U-23 faced a tough Myrtle Beach team that entered the match fresh off a 4-3 win over the Carolina Dynamo.
After an initial 30 minutes that saw both teams have their fair share of chances at goal, it was Clayton Sparks who broke the tie in the 33rd minute after a Myrtle Beach mishap on the back line. With the goal, Sparks is the team’s leading scorer with two goals on the season.
Myrtle Beach equalized in the 42nd minute with a tally from Nazeem Bartman to knot the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.
The teams played out an end-to end game during the second half. NCFC U-23 came within inches of a late game winner. In the end, neither team could find the elusive goal as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
