CARY, N.C. (February 22, 2019) – Alex Comsia, a former standout member of NCFC U-23 and the UNC men’s soccer program, has signed a contract with North Carolina FC, pending league and federation approval. Comsia earned the contract after a successful preseason trial.
 
“I knew about Alex [Comsia] when I first came on board and we started looking at candidates from the MLS Combine,” said North Carolina FC Head Coach Dave Sarachan. “I knew he had a great career at UNC. We had an opportunity to keep an eye on him at their combine and our combine. He’s certainly a great example of a guy who has put in the work in the club system and has an opportunity to be part of our first team.”
 
The Canadian played the past four seasons at UNC where he made 80 appearances and helped lead his team to the College Cup in 2016 and 2017. Comsia enjoyed an impressive senior season in 2018 where he was named a First Team All-American, the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and the ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year.
 
Comsia spent three seasons with NCFC U-23 from 2015-2017. The defender was a key starter for the side and joins a growing list of U-23 products to make the jump to the professional ranks. 
 
During his youth career, the defender was a part of the Vancouver Whitecaps residency program and a member of several Canadian youth national teams. Comsia won a bronze medal at the 2013 CONCACAF Men’s Under-17 Championship and represented his country at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2013. He also played in nine matches for Canada’s U-20 side.

The 2018 NWSL Champion NC Courage will host Alex Morgan, Marta and the rest of the Orlando Pride at 1:00 p.m. in a preseason match followed by an international exhibition between NCFC and Necaxa of Mexico’s Liga MX at 3:30 p.m.
 
The doubleheader presented by the Hilton Garden Inn Durham Southpoint will be named the “Friendship Cup” to represent North Carolina Football Club’s commitment to building deeper ties to the best men’s and women’s professional soccer clubs in the world. 
 
Season ticket members will have the opportunity to purchase doubleheader tickets during an exclusive 48-hour pre-sale window starting on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 10:00 a.m. through Friday, Feb. 22 at 10:00 a.m. Season ticket members can purchase during this exclusive pre-sale window by logging into their Ticketmaster Account Manager page by clicking HERE, or by calling the Coastal Credit Union Box Office at 919-459-8144.

CARY, N.C. (February 15, 2019) –North Carolina FC has secured the services of holding midfielder and 2019 MLS Superdraft selection Tommy McCabe on loan from FC Cincinnati. The move is pending league and federation approval. 
 
McCabe was recently picked up by FC Cincinnati with the 29th overall pick in the second round of the 2019 MLS Superdraft after three standout seasons with the University of Notre Dame. 
 
“Tommy is a young player coming off a very good collegiate career,” said North Carolina FC Head Coach Dave Sarachan. “Cincinnati thought highly of him enough to draft him and I watched him perform at the combine. I thought at that time, he was one of the better combine trialists. We’re very happy to have him be a part of things with us. We think in that position as a holding midfielder, it’s an important spot and he’ll have an opportunity to develop here with our group.”
 
With the Irish, McCabe was an instrumental piece in the lineup as a defensive midfielder. He totaled 61 appearances and four assists, while helping the Irish qualify for the NCAA Championship in all three seasons he was there. Additionally, McCabe earned All-ACC Freshman honors in 2016 and All-ACC Third Team honors in 2018.
 
McCabe enjoyed a standout youth career, including spending three years in the United States Soccer Under-17 Residency Program. The South Orange N.J. native played for the U.S. U-17 MNT at the 2015 U-17 World Cup in Chile and was named a two-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Youth All-American during his illustrious youth career.

CARY, N.C. (February 12, 2019) – North Carolina FC has named former U.S. U-15 Boy’s National Team Head Coach Clint Peay an Assistant Coach. Peay cements an impressive North Carolina FC technical staff that features Head Coach Dave Sarachan, Assistant Coach John Bradford and Assistant General Manger and Goalkeeper Coach Nic Platter.
 
“It’s great to have Clint here,” said North Carolina FC Head Coach Dave Sarachan. “I’ve known him for many years and he’s certainly built up a lot of experience working at a variety of different levels. Having had a great professional career, he understands what the next level should look like. Having a guy with his experience join us is great. He obviously was a defender and will have a real eye for how our defenders come together. His overall knowledge is excellent and we’re happy to have him.”
 
As a former Olympian, four-time NCAA Champion, three-time MLS Cup Champion and a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Champion, Peay is a winner at the highest level of soccer in the United States. 
 
“Obviously, I’m very excited,” said Peay. “This is a great club and I’m excited to work with Dave [Sarachan] and the rest of the staff. I think it’s a group of guys that is poised to do some big things this year. There’s a good mix of veterans and young guys. For me, I think the USL is a quality league. They’ve grown and it’s competitive. The opportunity to be part of this group, organization and league is pretty amazing.”
 
His playing resume includes a standout career at the University of Virginia, stints with D.C. United during the club’s greatest period of success and an international career where he represented the United States at the 1993 U-20 World Cup, 1995 Pan American Games, 1995 World University Games and the 1996 Summer Olympics. 
 
No stranger to the overall club, Peay is a Triangle resident and his son, Miles Peay, came through the NCFC Youth Academy and currently plays college soccer at UNC Asheville. 
 
In addition to his coaching duties with U.S. Soccer, Peay has spent the last several years scouting up-and-coming local talent for U.S. Soccer. He joined the organization in 2012 as part of the technical staff for the U-17 Men’s National Team. Peay was named head coach of the U-14 Boys National Team in 2016 before taking over head-coaching responsibilities for the U-15 Boys National Team in 2018.
 
Prior to joining U.S. Soccer, Peay gained head-coaching experience with the University of Richmond from 2009-2012. He also served as an assistant coach with Georgetown, Davidson and George Mason early in his career.
 
North Carolina FC is currently in preseason training and working hard for the upcoming USL Championship season. Peay cements an impressive North Carolina FC technical staff that features Head Coach Dave Sarachan, Assistant Coach John Bradford and Assistant General Manger and Goalkeeper Coach Nic Platter.
 
“It’s great to have Clint here,” said North Carolina FC Head Coach Dave Sarachan. “I’ve known him for many years and he’s certainly built up a lot of experience working at a variety of different levels. Having had a great professional career, he understands what the next level should look like. Having a guy with his experience join us is great. He obviously was a defender and will have a real eye for how our defenders come together. His overall knowledge is excellent and we’re happy to have him.”
 
As a former Olympian, four-time NCAA Champion, three-time MLS Cup Champion and a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Champion, Peay is a winner at the highest level of soccer in the United States. 
 
“Obviously, I’m very excited,” said Peay. “This is a great club and I’m excited to work with Dave [Sarachan] and the rest of the staff. I think it’s a group of guys that is poised to do some big things this year. There’s a good mix of veterans and young guys. For me, I think the USL is a quality league. They’ve grown and it’s competitive. The opportunity to be part of this group, organization and league is pretty amazing.”
 
His playing resume includes a standout career at the University of Virginia, stints with D.C. United during the club’s greatest period of success and an international career where he represented the United States at the 1993 U-20 World Cup, 1995 Pan American Games, 1995 World University Games and the 1996 Summer Olympics. 
 
No stranger to the overall club, Peay is a Triangle resident and his son, Miles Peay, came through the NCFC Youth Academy and currently plays college soccer at UNC Asheville. 
 
In addition to his coaching duties with U.S. Soccer, Peay has spent the last several years scouting up-and-coming local talent for U.S. Soccer. He joined the organization in 2012 as part of the technical staff for the U-17 Men’s National Team. Peay was named head coach of the U-14 Boys National Team in 2016 before taking over head-coaching responsibilities for the U-15 Boys National Team in 2018.
 
Prior to joining U.S. Soccer, Peay gained head-coaching experience with the University of Richmond from 2009-2012. He also served as an assistant coach with Georgetown, Davidson and George Mason early in his career.

(January 31, 2019) – NCFC Youth Academy and United States U-20 National Team standout Manny Perez has signed with Scottish Premiership side Celtic FC and has been loaned back to North Carolina FC, pending league and federation approval as well as the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.

The move is a testament to the hard work the young defender put in with the NCFC Youth Academy under the direction of current North Carolina FC assistant coach John Bradford as well as former NCFC defender and Academy coach Greg Shields. Perez is the latest youth product to join the professional ranks and his move serves as the most recent example of the club’s strong youth-to-pro pipeline. Perez will be the third Academy player on NCFC’s active roster, joining local products DJ Taylor and Dre Fortune.

“I’d like to thank Celtic FC for signing me and allowing me to continue my development at my hometown club,” said Perez. “I’m excited to start my professional career with NCFC and look forward to working with my new teammates and contribute to the success of the club.”

The 19-year old was a critical part of the NCFC Youth Academy from 2014-2017. In his final two Academy seasons, he appeared in 62 matches and recorded 20 goals. He also earned U.S. Soccer Development Academy Player of the Year honors for the East Conference in 2016 and was named to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Best XI in the East Conference in 2017.

“This is such an exciting moment for Manny, and I couldn’t be happier for him,” said Bradford. “This move will be a massive step in his development and a great opportunity for him to begin his professional career. In our years with him in our academy, our staff knew there were big things ahead from him, even at a young age. It has been wonderful to see him earn DA accolades, college accolades, U.S. Youth National Team opportunities, and now starting his professional pathway. Perez spent the last two years playing for NC State where he appeared in 29 matches, scored six goals and added nine assists. He was named ACC Freshman of the Year in 2017, and was ranked the No. 2 freshman on Top Drawer Soccer’s Freshman Top 100 List at the end of the 2017 season.

CARY, N.C. (January 29, 2019) –North Carolina FC has landed a big signing for 2019 with the addition of New Zealand and former Sunderland center back Sam Brotherton. The signing is pending league and federation approval, as well as receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P1 Visa.
 
“Sam is an experienced international center back and will be an important piece to our back line defending,” noted North Carolina FC Head Coach Dave Sarachan. “Sam is excellent in the air and comfortable in distribution. More importantly he has the ability to organize and lead a backline. I look forward to having Sam play an important role for us this season.”
 
The 22-year-old already has a wealth of international and professional soccer experience.  A key starter for the New Zealand national team, Brotherton has made 15 appearances at the senior level for the All Whites, including action in World Cup qualifying matches. Brotherton was also selected to the New Zealand squad for the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia. He’s represented his country at the 2015 U-20 FIFA World Cup and at the Pacific Games with the U-23 team.
 
Brotherton earned a professional contract with Sunderland in January of 2017, where he primarily played with the Sunderland U-23 squad. Most recently, he was loaned out to Blyth Spartans of England’s National League North, but saw limited playing time due to an injury.
 
Prior to his stint in England, Brotherton spent two seasons at the University of Wisconsin. He made 33 appearances for the Badgers en route to making the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2015 and earning All-Big Ten Second Team honors in 2016.
